Definition

What it is

Every time a page loads data, saves a form, or fetches an image, it sends a request. The Network tab lists each one with its status code, size, and how long it took. Failed requests show up in red.

Open it, then do the thing that's broken. If a request turns red, click it: Headers shows what was sent, Response shows what came back. That tells you whether the problem is the page (frontend) or the server (backend).

The Network tab only records while it's open, so open it first and then reproduce the problem.

How to ask for it

Vague

“Saving doesn't work.”

Precise

“When I click Save, the Network tab shows a POST to /api/profile returning 403 with the response "Not allowed." I'm signed in as an editor. Check whether the backend is checking the right role.”

Why it works

The failing request, its status, and its response show the problem is a permission check on the server, not the button.
