Definition

What it is

A model is the trained AI system that does the work: writing, summarizing, classifying, generating images. Large language models (LLMs) handle text; other models make images, video, or speech.

Models differ in quality, speed, and cost. A big model writes better but is slower and pricier; a small one is fast and cheap for simple jobs like sorting emails into categories.

You can ask your coding agent to use a specific model, or describe the trade-off ("fast and cheap" or "highest quality").

Say it like a builder

How to ask for it

Vague

“Use AI for this.”

Precise

“Use a fast, low-cost model to classify each support email into Billing, Bug, or Question, and a stronger model to draft the reply. Keep the model choice in one config so it can be swapped later.”

Why it works

"Use AI" hides the speed/cost/quality choice; naming which model tier fits each job is a real decision.
