Definition

What it is

An integration lets your app work with another service: post to a Slack channel, add rows to a Google Sheet, create contacts in HubSpot, charge cards with Stripe.

Integrations are built on the other service's API and sometimes webhooks. Many need the user to connect their account first (the "Connect to Google" screen).

Be specific about direction (does data go out, come in, or both?), what triggers it, and what happens if the other service is down.

How to ask for it

Vague

“Make it work with Slack.”

Precise

“Add a Slack integration: when a deal is marked Won, post "{deal} closed by {owner} for {amount}" to the #sales channel. The workspace admin connects Slack once in Settings.”

Why it works

"Work with Slack" could mean anything; naming the integration's trigger, message, channel, and setup defines it.
